Stern action if hosps deny admission

Kolkata: State Health department has issued a fresh advisory to both the government and private hospitals urging them not to deny admission to the patients. Action would be taken against the hospitals if such incidents happen.

The order says that COVID-19 has been declared as global pandemic and the West Bengal Epidemic Disease, COVID-19 Regulations 2020 has been enforced since March 16. Hence the department has asked the private hospitals not to deny admission to the patients. It says that there have been instances where the private hospitals denied patients' admission that led to the suffering of patients.

The health department again warned that penal action including suspension of license will be initiated against such hospitals. Advisory has been issued for the government hospitals regarding the preparedness for dealing with the Covid affected patients. The health department in its fresh advisory categorically stated that if any hospital denies patients' admission, necessary disciplinary action will be taken against the concerned officer as per the applicable service rules.
