Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted rainfall in Kolkata on Wednesday. The rainfall may also occur in Gangetic South Bengal as well as North Bengal.
A deep depression on Gangetic South Bengal, which would extend up to South Odisha, would be the cause of the rainfall, the RMC Kolkata has predicted.
"Normally, Bengal receives above-normal rainfall in June and July. The north-eastern states are likely to face the risk of flood around that time. But this rainfall in Kolkata and other parts of the state will be an exception," said an RMC Kolkata official.
However, hot and humid weather was dominated Kolkata on Tuesday. The highest temperature of the day was 36 degree Celsius and the lowest temperature was 23 degree Celsius.
The morning walkers though got some respite as they felt a cold breeze.
"While the northern part of the state is likely to receiver slightly excessive rainfall, the southern part will receive normal rainfall," the official said.
However, RMC said, residents of Kolkata should not worry about the rainfall. The rainfall would be normal and would definitely not be a thunderstorm.
"These days are hot and humid. We get tired while working outside. A rainfall would certainly give us a respite," said a city based salesman.
It may be mentioned that monsoon has not been very active over Gangetic Bengal in the recent past. As of now, Kolkata may receive a few scattered showers for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the rainfall will stop, RMC predicted.
