Kolkata: The state government has decided to give financial assistance to the family members of a 22-year-old youth who was killed when he went to work in Gujarat.
Sources said the Mamata Banerjee government will be handing over a cheque of Rs 2.5 lakh to the
youth's mother.
It may be recalled that the victim Madhu Sarkar was a resident of North Point in Alipurduar.
He went to work in a timber mill in Gujarat and he was found murdered at Taranpur near Ankleshwar police station in Bharuch
district in Gujarat.
Sources said that victim's mother Mala Sarkar and sister Sumitra Sarkar went to the office of the district magistrate of Alipurduar where senior administrative officials informed them about the Chief Minister's decision and that on Tuesday they would be getting a cheque
worth Rs 2.5 lakh.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had also condemned the murder of Mohammad Afrazul in Rajasthan and also announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to his family and a job to one of his family members.
There were some more incidents in which people from Bengal were killed when they went to work in Kerala and Odisha.
Being concerned over the safety and security of the people from Bengal who are in other states for the sake of their jobs, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had
directed district magistrates to help those who want to return leaving their jobs and assist them in earning their livelihood.
