State Fisheries dept to set up stall at Ahmedabad Puja
Kolkata: The State Fisheries Development Corporation (SFDC) is coming up with two food stalls at Ahmedabad Kalibari Durga Puja — the biggest Durga Puja in Gujarat.
"The Durga puja at Ahmedabad Kali Bari in terms of pomp and grandeur is one of the most well known Durga Pujas in the entire western India. It is a big challenge for us as this is our maiden venture there. We are taking all possible measures to live up to the expectations of the fish lovers with our variety of fish items," said Soumyajit Das, managing director of SFDC.
A member of the Ahmedabad puja committee said last year SFDC had set up its stall at a puja in Bengaluru and through one of our contacts we got in touch with the MD of SFDC and expressed our desire to have their presence during the Puja days. "After a written proposal from us, they agreed and will be serving fish items of Hilsha, Prawn, Chingri (both Galda and Bagda), Tangra, Pabda, Koi for lunch, dinner and also snacks prepared from fish. We are excited as quality and variety of fish is often a scarcity in this part of the state and producing good quality fish items is also not up to our expectation," he added.
Anal Mukherjee, the treasurer of the Puja committee said the puja covers an area of more than 2 lakh square feet and 50 stalls are set up in and around the pandal from October 13 to 19. "Among the stalls, the focus will be on food stalls. There will be around 25 stalls consisting of non-veg items and 14 of vegetarian items," Mukherjee added.
The SFDC will also sett up their stalls in as many as 23 Pujas in north and south Kolkata.
