State Assembly passes motion, congratulates CM for Kanyashree

Kolkata: The state Assembly on Friday passed a motion congratulating Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the success of Kanyashree Prakalpa in winning the first prize in United Nations Public Service Award for Asia Pacific in Netherlands.
Senior ministers including Partha Chatterjee, the state Parliamentary Affairs minister, Amit Mitra, the state Finance minister, Subrata Mukherjee, state Panchayat minister, Firhad Hakim, the state Urban Development minister and Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, the state Power minister, moved the motion in the state Assembly on Friday.
It has been stated that the House expressed happiness over the state's success in reaching the top of the world with Kanyashree Prakalpa that has been acclaimed all over the world. Receiving the United Nations Public Service Award has set a unique example. People of all walks of life in the state has congratulated the Chief Minister for implementing the scheme that was her brainchild. The Chief Minister has also been congratulated for deciding to bring university students under Kanyashree Prakalpa. In this connection, the Women and Child Development and Social Welfare minister Sashi Panja said the scheme was implemented equally among girls across the state without seeing any political colour. Taking a dig at Tanmoy Bhattacharjee, CPI(M) MLA from North Dum Dum Assembly constituency, Panja said it is sad that they cannot appreciate anything good.
"It was a moment of honour for all when the Chief Minister was taking the award on June 23 in The Hague," she said adding that it was the Chief Minister who had named the project and even had drawn its logo.
She further said that the scheme is going to leave a long term positive impact on society.
