SSC: Candidates eager to know number of vacant posts
Kolkata: The candidates who had applied for the post of assistant teachers in IX-X level and are in the waiting list of the School Service Commission are extremely eager to know about the details of the third counselling session and how many vacant posts are still existing.
It may be mentioned that many teachers in the IX-X level have already joined their services. The second counselling was conducted a few days ago. It was learnt that around 2,600 vacant posts are there. If the number of candidates who have not joined yet is taken into consideration, the figure may go up.
The vacancies are mainly of two types — firstly, those who have not taken part in the previous counselling or against those who have not joined service. All the related data have already been sent to the District Inspectors' (DI) offices in the respective districts. The reports from the DI officers are yet to reach the office of the School Service Commission. It is, however, ready to conduct the third counselling.
The number of vacant posts may go up after the Commission gets the details of candidates who have not joined their services. In case of teachers in XI-XII, the Commission has not found suitable candidates against as many as 822 seats. It is unable to fill up the posts only because their nature has not been changed yet.
It may be mentioned that few SSC candidates held an indefinite sit-in demonstration on Mayo Road last week. State Education minister Partha Chatterjee on March 2 visited them and urged them to withdraw their agitation and come for discussions with the government on the issue of filling up vacant posts.
