Srijit to do more children's films, take up Tagore works

The national award winning director has already made two children's films — both based on Kakababu, a fictional adventurist conceived by writer Sunil Gangopadhyay.

"I will definitely do more work for children. I love to work with children and already did two films Mishwar Rahasya and Yeti Obhijan. Children are very instinctive," Mukherjee said on the sidelines of a cultural programme.

The trailer of Yeti Obhijaan, an Indo-Bangla joint production based on Sunil Gangopadhyay's story Paharchuroy Atanko and shot extensively in Switzerland, had been unveiled recently.

The film cast youngster Aryann Bhowmik who was introduced by Srijit in Mishwar Rahasya.

Srijit also expressed a desire to take up feature films on Rabindranath Tagore's work in future in Bengali.

The director of Baishe Srabon, who attended the cultural show of school students in Tagore's dance drama Taser Desh, said: "There are many Tagorean works which can be adapted into film."

"But I won't go for any modern interpretation," Srijit asserted, saying "Tagore's works like Taser Desh have many layers as allegory."

Srijit described Taser Desh, a dance drama, as very relevant for the present time.

"While every work of this nature has its own relevance, Taser Desh talks about

being fettered by rules and breaking rules," the ace filmmaker said.

"But again this battle for coming out of prescribed rules is external and Tagore's works always have a timeless appeal," he emphasised.

Srijit was present along with director Anik Dutta of Bhooter Bhabishyat fame, popular Bengali singers Rupankar Bagchi and Srikanta Acharya at the presentation of Tasher Desh by students of Dolna Day School in city.
