SRFTI student brings molestation charge against two seniors

Kolkata: A student from a neighbouring state has brought charges of molestation against two senior students at the Central government-run Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI).

The victim, who hails from Jharkhand, has submitted a complaint to the authorities that the duo had molested her on October 20 and also on November 6 night, when Deepavali celebration was going on at the campus of the institute on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass at Mukundapur under Panchasayar police station area.

The victim, a first year student, has also mentioned the names of the duo who committed the act, in her complaint. She has further alleged that they had threatened her of dire consequences if she opened up to anyone regarding the matter.

The SRFTI authorities have forwarded the compliant to Panchasayar police station.

The complainant has alleged that she was walking along the campus with some of her friends at around 11 pm after attending a party on the occasion of Deepavali, when one of the two senior students made objectionable comments and molested her. The friends of the victim who were accompanying her protested and there was a fight between them and another group accompanying the molester. A student was injured in the incident.

According to the victim, the previous incident had allegedly taken place on October 20, when two seniors had molested her while she was talking to one of her close friends.

Interestingly, a source in the police station said that a counter complaint has been lodged against the victim as well. "We are examining both the complaints and are scanning the CCTV footage at the site of the incident. Action will be taken as per law," a police officer said.

It has been learnt that the sleuths will question the two group of students who were involved in the fight on the night of Deepavali. The two students who have been named in the FIR are also from outside Bengal.

The SRFTI authorities have remained tight-lipped regarding the incident. The director of SRFTI Debamitra Mitra is presently in Delhi. She will be reaching the city on Wednesday and take a decision in this regard.
