Spl trains to cater Chhath Puja rush

Kolkata: Eastern Railway will run special trains to cater heavy rush of passengers during Chhath Puja this year.

"There is a huge rush of passengers during the Chhath Puja. These trains have been introduced to cater to this crowd travelling to and from the city," a senior Eastern Railway official said.

He reiterated that Kolkata-Alipurduar Special will leave Kolkata station at 10.10 pm on Sundays and Wednesdays (November 3, 6, 10, 13 and 17, 2019) and reach Alipurduar station at 2 pm on the next day.

Alipurduar-Kolkata Special will leave Alipurduar station at 5 pm on Mondays and Thursdays (November 4, 7, 11, 14 and 18, 2019) and reach Kolkata station at 10:15 am on the next day. This apart, nine pairs of Bi-weekly Puja specials were earlier announced and now altogether 14 pairs of Bi-Weekly Specials will run in this route for passengers' convenience during different festivals. The trains will have sleeper class and air-conditioned coaches.

Meanwhile, South Eastern Railway will also run one pair of unreserved special train between Santragachi and Barauni via Tatanagar

on November 1. The return train will leave Barauni on November 3.

"Special train consisting of 16 general second class coaches will have stoppages at Kharagpur, Tatanagar, Chandil, Purulia, JoychandiPahar, Asansol, Chittaranjan, Madhupur, Jasidih, Jhajha and Kiul between Santragachi and Barauni," said an official of South Eastern Railway.
