South Dinajpur police pledge support to elderly living alone
BALURGHAT: Police in a significant move took several initiatives to provide door-to-door services of food and vegetable delivery, according to requirements, to the elderly who are staying alone during the lockdown.
South Dinajpur police chief Debarshi Dutta said that the elderly may avail of the opportunity staying home and purchase the food and vegetables according to their need.
"The elderly people can obtain the facility by calling 7384926002. This is a 24x7 service. This apart the senior citizens will also get any emergency service for the quick response and the effective follow-up or providing a police ambulance service in case of a medical emergency," he said, adding that many of the elderly people are staying alone amid the crisis.
An official source said the sons and daughters of such people have gone out of the
city either to study or for jobs. They are also worried about their parents. Police have assured them of providing the necessary service in the crisis period.
"The police will ensure safety and security of the senior people in combating COVID-19 and it is only the collective efforts and public cooperation which can help fight this virus," said a police officer.
