South Bengal districts to witness heavy rainfall in next 48 hours

Kolkata: Heavy rainfall has been predicted in some of the South Bengal districts in the next 48 hours while the city is due to receive scattered rainfall.

According to Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore, a low pressure trough, formed over Bay-of-Bengal, has further intensified brining more rain in various districts of Bengal.

Several parts of the city and its adjoining areas received light rainfall on Monday. The sky remained overcast in the city since afternoon.

The situation will continue for next the two days, the weather office predicted.

The MeT office said districts like West Midnapore, East Midnapore, Jhargram, North 24-Parganas and South 24-Parganas may receive heavy rainfall due to the low pressure trough that has already contributed to depression.

The other South Bengal districts like Murshidabad, Nadia, Hooghly and Howrah will receive moderate rainfall on Tuesday.

Senior weather officials warned of spells of thundershowers accompanied by strong winds in the coastal regions. A senior official at the weather office said some of the North Bengal districts may also receive heavy rainfall.

It may be mentioned that an alert has been issued to the coastal districts on Sunday asking fishermen not to voyage into the sea.

The weather office predicts a rough sea for at least next two days and the restrictions will stay put until Wednesday.

The tourists, who have visited beach towns like Digha, Mandarmani and Bakkhali, have witnessed high tidal waves.

Some restrictions were imposed on visitors taking bath in the sea at Digha and Mandarmani on Sunday following the alert.

The district administrations have taken all possible steps to check any untoward incidents. More police personnel have been deployed in Digha and Mandarmani beaches.

The district police officers maintained surveillance in the beaches and conducted campaigns to aware people about the rough sea.

According to the weather office prediction, the coastal districts will witness rainfall accompanied by strong winds.

The neighbouring states like Odisha, Jharkhand and also Chattisgarh will also receive moderate to heavy rainfall.
