Soon, UK-India cultural prog

The British Council in collaboration with Sangit Kala Mandir (SKM) will celebrate the rich cultural heritage shared by the two countries as part of the UK-India Year of Culture 2017 in the city. Anoushka Shankar will perform live music along with the screening of a silent era film 'Shiraz', dating back to 1928 on November 3 and a dance recital by Company Wayne McGregor will be held on December 10. Alan Gemell, Director India of the British Council said: "We are delighted to partner with SKM, one of the country's pioneer in performing arts and culture. Both the showcases will be held at the Kalamandir auditorium. The partnership will give audiences in the city the chance to experience innovative and exciting creative work and also link artists of both countries."
Talking to reporters, Gemell said that the British Council India is in talks with the Ministry Of Development Of North Eastern Region (DONER) to set up teacher training programmes in the northeast. "We are in close negotiations with DONER to develop large-scale teacher training programmes in the northeast and also some cultural programmes," he said.
