Soon, Metro Railway to provide service information based on real-time tracking
Kolkata: Metro Railway has decided to provide service information on real time basis instead of following the conventional time table. According to Metro Railway authorities, due to some unavoidable circumstances multiple trains are being cancelled every day, which is why the step is being taken.
According to sources, the information display boards in the Metro stations are set as per the time table which was prepared a long time ago. As years passed, Metro services have gone through a lot of changes but the time table has remained the same.
According to Metro authorities, travelling time has been increased at present due to speed restriction being imposed recently. Also, the number of trips have come down compared to previous years.
As the time table was made according to the train speed and number of trips, it varies a lot these days. As a result, multiple trains are being cancelled.
Passengers are also getting harassed as they follow the time shown on the display boards. Due to the same reason, time of service cannot be informed accordingly to the passengers during disruptions.
Indrani Banerjee, Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of Metro Railway, said: "Keeping the passengers' interest in mind, the real time tracking is being introduced. Based on the movement of the train, time will be shown on the display board."
Sources informed that during real time tracking, train arrival time cannot be displayed a long time ahead. It will be shown a few moments before the train arrives.
Meanwhile, a non-AC rake's door got stuck due a technical glitch on Thursday at Maidan, following Wednesday's incident at Dum Dum. Passengers alleged that they got stuck inside the rake for almost 10 minutes, as the motorman could not open the door. Later, he somehow managed to open it.
Metro authorities have taken cognizance of the incident but claimed that the problem had occurred only for two minutes. According to the authorities, the problem occurred at 6:06 pm and was solved at 6:08 pm on Thursday.
