Soon, ID cards to be made mandatory for both visitors & employees at KMC

Mayor Firhad Hakim said decision has been taken to check unwanted people from entering the civic body office

Kolkata: Considering the security issue, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is going to introduce ID cards for not only its employees but for the visitors as well.

Mayor Firhad Hakim on Thursday said that none will be allowed to enter the KMC head quarter on SN Banerjee road without a valid identity card issued by the civic authorities.

The step has been taken to check unwanted people from entering the KMC office.

Hakim also mentioned that it would be obligatory for him to wear the ID card before entering his office at the KMC. One of the main objectives of the initiative is to restrict the unwanted people from getting access the important offices within the civic body headquarter.

"The visitors who are eager to visit any particular department have to mention on a piece of paper the purpose of his visit. The paper slip will be sent to the respective departments. A concerned officer of the department will verify and then will give his/her permission. If a visitor has a valid reason then he/she will be issued a temporary ID card on the ground floor.

"We will not entertain any unwanted persons in the KMC. I will also enter my office with my ID card. There will be different ID cards for the reporters as well," Hakim told mediapersons.

The proposed method will help the security personnel to manage the crowd in a better way. Security measures have always been a top priority. It may be mentioned that in a recent incident a person duped lakhs of money from an account of the KMC by forging some documents.

The KMC officials also lodged a specific complaint in this regard.

Many of the KMC employees have hailed the move taken by the top brass saying that it will check the entry of unwanted people thereby enhancing the security parameters at the KMC.

Speaking to the media Hakim also said they have some plans to set up pumping stations each at Kidderpore, Behala and Jadavpur to discharge the accumulated water. Some other projects will also be conducted in phases. Many projects are also on the cards.
