Sonarpur cops rescue abducted girl within 12 hrs

Kolkata: A college student, who was abducted at gunpoint while she was returning to her Sonarpur home on Saturday night, was rescued by the police in less than 12 hours of her kidnap.
It has been learnt that her abduction was the result of a strained relationship with a youth, who had criminal antecedents. Two persons have been detained in this connection by the Sonarpur police while the prime accused is still at large.
According to police sources, the girl, who is a student of third year at a college in Hazra in South Kolkata, was returning home in a toto at around 9.30 pm on Saturday, when a car came and blocked her way.
"I had slowed down the vehicle in front of Nandalal Vidya Sishu Niketan School at Kamrabad, because of a speed breaker. The four wheeler overtook my vehicle and three young men came down from it, who tried to forcibly drag the girl into the vehicle. As I tried to stop the abductors, one of them brandished a firearm and threatened me of dire consequences. I was helpless and watched them flee with the girl," the toto driver said.
The girl was alone in the vehicle and was sitting on the seat just beside the driver.
Investigation by the police revealed that the girl was in a relationship with one Prosen Rang - a class IX dropout, but had recently parted ways after facing stiff resistance from her family. The accused had barged into the victim's residence a week ago and had threatened her of dire consequences against breaking the relationship.
Soon after receiving the complaint, the sleuths detained Raju, brother of the prime accused and one of his associates named Dipak, with whom Prosen was in touch over phone. Prosen somehow realised this and in fear of getting apprehended, he dropped the victim at a location near her residence and fled on Sunday morning.
The victim told police that she was confined in an under-construction building on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, following which the police raided the place but to no avail. The victim claimed that she was not aware of the criminal antecedents of the accused and when she came to know of the same, she decided to move away from the relationship.
Police sources informed that Prosen was involved in criminal activities in the area and had earlier been arrested by Sonarpur police under the Arms Act. He was out on bail barely six months ago.
