Some students call off hunger-strike at Presidency

Kolkata: Some students of Presidency University on Thursday withdrew their hunger-strike after the authorities handed them a room in the Hindu Hostel for keeping their belongings.

A handful of the agitating students, who were on movement for nearly three months, started a hunger-strike nearly week ago intensifying their movement.

"However, we will continue our token agitation till Hindu Hostel is handed to us over completely," a student said.

It may be mentioned that the state Higher Education department had prodded the university on October 5 for handing over the Hostel by November 15. The university after receiving the written communication from the government announced that the work for the remaining two wards in the hostel will be completed by November 15. "The hostel will be handed over to around 110 students on November 15," a senior varsity official said.
