Sobhandeb inaugurates WBSEDCL customer care centre at Nadia
Kolkata: State Power minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay inaugurated a newly-built customer care centre at Nadia on Monday. The building has been constructed by the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) at Muragacha.
Chattopadhyay said that the Power department is working on a war footing to fulfill the dream of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to provide electricity in every household.
At present, electricity has been provided to more than 37,000 mouzas. Every day, new customers are applying for electric connections and power is supplied to them at the earliest.
He said the customer care centre will cater to 25,773 customers. They will be able to deposit electricity bill at the centre without any harassment.
The minister urged the officials to take up special drives to stop illegal tapping of power from the overhead line which causes huge loss to WBSEDCL. "The officials have been asked to take the matter up with the people and request them to apply for proper connections instead of tapping power from the overhead connection, which is both illegal and risky," he said, adding: "Tapping power from the overhead line illegally is a formidable looking problem in semi-urban and rural Bengal."
Steps have also been taken to supply uninterrupted power and stop dropping of voltage.
Ujjal Biswas, state minister for Correctional Homes, Kallol Khan, Trinamool Congress MLA from Nakashipara and Vibhu Goel, district magistrate, Nadia, were present at the inaugural function.
