Sobhandeb holds emergency meet with officials over power cut menace
Kolkata: State Power minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay on Tuesday held an emergency meeting with the senior officials of his department, instructing them to take necessary steps to combat the crisis triggered by frequent power cuts.
The minister has asked the officials to be prepared to handle the situation, if there is a sudden rise in the demand of power. The officials have been given strict instructions so that employees of the WBSEDCL rush to the spot if there is any issue relating to the power cut.
Additional emergency mobile vans have been deployed in various places as a precautionary measure.
He also said that there has been a sudden rise in the load on power supply due to the excessive heat and the ongoing World Cup.
The rise in consumption of power has happened as many people use various equipment that are not always brought to the notice of the Power department. Such incidents go up, particularly during the summer.
The World Cup matches have caused extra burden as many people are watching television. The minister has also urged people to bring it to the notice of the Power department if they consume extra power.
The highest demand of power during this season has gone up to 7,000 MW. During the meeting, the minister had a detailed discussion on various issues and asked the officials what steps they were taking to combat the situation.
It may be mentioned here that Chattopadhyay also held a meeting with senior officials of CESC on Monday, when the minister instructed them to arrange generators which could provide power in case of a power cut in any particular region.
It may be mentioned that during the past two days, frequent incidents of power cuts have been reported from both the CESC and WBSEDCL areas. This has been causing serious problems for the people, particularly the patients.
The Power minister has also given instructions to his department officials, to take necessary steps when there is a sudden rise in the demand for power.
