Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay inaugurates Central Safety Day

Kolkata: State minister for Power Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay inaugurated the Central Safety Day organised by Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC) for its employees at Science City auditorium on Tuesday.

State Labour minister Moloy Ghatak was the chief guest. Addressing a gathering of nearly 2,000 employees engaged in power generation and distribution, CESC managing director (distribution), Debasish Banerjee said untoward incidents reduced by 25 percent from previous year.

"It is our commitment to come up regularly with improved safety practices across the organisation," Banerjee said. Seventeen safety groups, comprising 84 employees from generation and distribution operations, received their awards for exemplary safety performance. The guests formally released the company's latest internal safety standards for critical jobs and called

upon management and employees to achieve a "zero accident" target.
