SLBC asked to take steps to ensure timely loans for farmers

Kolkata: The state government has urged the State Level Banker's Committee (SLBC) to take necessary steps to ensure that farmers get loans at the right time.
Pradip Majumdar, agriculture advisor to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and Sanjeev Chopra, Additional Chief Secretary of the state agriculture department, held the meeting with representatives of SLBC at Nabanna on Tuesday.
Majumdar said: "There was discussion over the issues that need to be resolved for the sake of benefits of farmers. The SLBC will take up the matters in their internal meeting scheduled to be held on Wednesday."
The first step that needs to be taken is to ensure loan to the present KCC holders without any delay. The process of giving KCC to more farmers is also going on.
It is often found that the farmers are getting the grant given by the state government on time but their loan is not getting sanctioned at the right time.
Now the SLBC members will be discussing the
issues in their internal meetings on Wednesday and there will be further discussion with the state government in this regard.
It may be mentioned that the state agriculture department has decided to give another Rs 81.39 crore among farmers who have
incurred losses due to hail storm. In sericulture sector, a compensation of Rs 80 lakh will also be given.
The state government had also given compensation to farmers earlier as well for the compensation they had incurred due to heavy rainfall in July.
