Police on Tuesday arrested Basab Rambabu, the prime accused of TMC leader Shrinu Naidu's murder from Rajmundi in Andhra Pradesh. Chinna and Ramana, two brothers of Rambabu were also arrested. The Midnapore District Police would appeal for three-day transit remand.
It should be recalled that Shrinu and one of his associates were killed and three others were injured when four bike-borne shooters shot them and hurled bombs during an attack on a TMC party office at Kharagpur in January.
Later, police arrested several other accused in this case. One of the accused was Shankar Rao, an old rival of Shrinu. He had allegedly planned the operation sitting at Shalimar at Howrah with another accused in this case, Francis Xavier at Kharagpur. According to the West Midnapore police source, 12 accused were arrested in this case. Superintendent of police, Bharati Ghosh sent an 18-member team in Andhra Pradesh to arrest the prime accused.
