Police have arrested the general manager and the manager of Shimmers Night Club at Sector V in Salt Lake in connection with the brawl between two rival groups in the wee hours of Sunday.
It may be recalled that Joheb Khan, who is a member of Lula Haider's gang, was beaten up by the members of their rival gang headed by Imtiaz Ali, who was arrested on Tuesday.
Two days after arresting Imtiaz, police picked up the General Manager Paritosh Banerjee and the Manager Swarup Ghosh on Thursday morning. They were arrested on charges of keeping the night club open after midnight by flouting the norms. They were remanded in police custody for 5 days after being produced before the Bidhannagar Court.
The incident has raised questions on how night clubs and bars remain open despite being directed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to check the menace.
However, Shimmers was sealed on the very day the incident had taken place and the Bidhannagar Commissionerate is keeping vigil on the bars and night clubs in Salt lake area. The General Manager and the Manager of the night club, which is owned by Kirat Singh, son of multi-millionare bar owner Jagjit Singh, were arrested as they were found responsible for keeping the night club open till wee hours.
A police officer said that the arrest of the duo will show how police would take stringent measures if any bar owner or authority is found flouting norms. The senior police officers of Bidhannagar Commissionerates already have held a meeting in this regard.
After taking stringent measures against bars on VIP Roads, police have taken steps against those in Salt Lake. It is learnt that Barrackpore Commissionerate has also started cracking down against the bars in their jurisdiction.
