Senior lawyers consulted, TMC to move SC today

The Trinamool Congress and the state government will move the Supreme Court on Monday pleading against the Calcutta high court's order of handing over the probe into the Narada sting operation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Sources said that senior Trinamool Congress leaders including Mukul Roy and the state Law minister Malay Ghatak were in Delhi on Sunday and held marathon

meetings with senior lawyers and advocates along with former judges.

It was learnt that the Trinamool Congress will harp on the point that how state BJP president Dilip Ghosh was well aware of the verdict that the High Court would give in connection with the Narada case.

A few days ago, the BJP state president had said that the High Court would order CBI probe after the Uttar Pradesh election results were out.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while speaking to the media on March 17 had said: "I am a lawyer. Tell me how could the president of a political party say that the High Court will order a CBI enquiry." The CBI has been told to initiate a case after their preliminary investigation that needs to be

completed within 72 hours from Friday as per the High Court's order.

Monday is effectively the last day remaining with the CBI officers to complete the preliminary probe and decide whether to initiate a case in this regard. Keeping this in mind, counsels of the Trinamool Congress and state government would file a case in the Supreme Court at the earliest on Monday.

On the other hand, the CBI on Sunday questioned all three of them including Amitabha Chakraborty, Brajesh Jha who had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court in connection with the sting operation. The CBI asked them to reveal the reason behind filing the PIL. They told the investigating officers that they had seen such a thing happening and filed the PIL for the interest of the people at large. They were also questioned at the CBI's office in Nizam Palace. Moreover, Amitabha also filed a caveat in connection with the Narada case and Brojesh would also be filing the same on Monday.
