Security guard dies after pipe falls on head at Hiland Park

Kolkata: A chaos broke out in Hiland Park area on the Southern fringes of the city on Thursday morning after a security staff of a residential apartment died after a pipe fell on his head.
Some locals and other security staff members staged a demonstration outside the residential apartment triggering tension amongst the residents of the flats. Senior police officers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The demonstration was also lifted later.
Police said the victim, Umesh Kumar Thakur, a security person was standing in front of the building when a pipe of the apartment broke and fell on his head.
The victim died on spot after he suffered serious injuries in his head. Other security men and the staff members of the residential apartment alleged that accident occurred due to lack of proper maintenance. They staged a protest demonstration in front of the building.
According to police, the incident took place at around 8 am on Thursday when Thakur was on standing at the courtyard.
Following the incident, other security men of the apartment started agitation with the dead body.
They refused to hand over the body to the police. The normalcy was restored two hours after the incident happened due to the intervention of the senior police officers.
When policemen from Survey Park reached the spot, the security men staged protests in front of the police officers. Deputy Commissioner (East) also rushed to the spot to pacify the mob.
Two hours after the incident, police finally removed the body and sent it for the postmortem examination.
Police are examining if there was any negligence on the part of the apartment authorities. Action will be taken against those who will be found guilty, a senior police officer said.
