Security bolstered in Gurap ahead of CM's meeting

Kolkata: Security has been tightened up at Gurap in Hooghly, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will hold an administrative review meeting on Tuesday. Initiatives have been taken to ensure that no untoward incident takes place when the Chief Minister holds the meeting.

Top brass of the district authorities and senior police officers have inspected the place where the meeting will be held, near Kangsharipur ground at Gurap in Hooghly.

Officials up to the level of block development officers (BDO) will be present in the meeting, along with the officers-in-charge of all the police stations in the district.

The Chief Minister will take stock of all the ongoing projects in the district and at the same time, she will discuss different issues related to the development of the district.

Hooghly is known for production of vegetables, including potato. So, the state government has taken several steps to ensure better production of crops.

The Chief Minister would also be taking stock of the present status of the projects, that were taken up by the state government for betterment of farmers.

Besides discussions on the steps taken up to support farmers, there are also possibilities of discussion on the issues related to cold storages. It may be mentioned that several cold storages are situated in the district, where mainly potatoes are stored.

Hooghly is already an open defecation free (ODF) district. So, Banerjee will also look into the possibilities of taking steps that will help in further development of the district.

She would also direct the concerned officers to take necessary steps, so that examinees of the forthcoming Higher Secondary examination do not face any trouble in reaching their examination centres.

Concerned police officers from the district have already started taking necessary measures so that no trouble takes place when the Chief Minister visits the place.

Officers of the dog and bomb squad carried out the frisking operations in and around the area of the venue of the administrative review meeting.
