Scuffle between 2 hawkers in train claim life of college goer
Kolkata: In a tragic incident, a first-year-student of Bangabashi College was killed when pushed out of a running train during a scuffle between two hawkers.
The incident took place on Friday night between Bally and Uttarpara station. Both the hawkers were arrested.
Police said the victim, Subhrojyoti Pal, was a resident of Nalhati in Birbhum district. The incident took place when he was returning home in Malda Intercity Express. After preliminary investigation it was found that the youth was standing close to the door when two hawkers started quarreling.
Passengers travelling in the compartment tried to separate them. Subhrojyoti, who was standing near the door, was all of a sudden pushed allegedly by the hawkers and he fell on the tracks from the running train. He received severe injuries. Officers of the Government Railway Police reached the spot and took Subhrojyoti to hospital where he was declared brought dead. The body was sent for an autopsy.
Police found an identity card from his bag and contacted his family members. A pall of gloom descended in Nalhati in Birbhum after the family members and local people received the news of Subhrojyoti's death.They demanded stringent punishment of the hawkers. Passengers of the train caught the hawkers and handed them over to the police.
