School demolition: Baguiati Sub-Inspector suspended

Bidhannagar City Police suspended a police officer in connection with the case where a promoter demolished a school building.

A Sub-Inspector (SI) of Baguiati police station Tamal Sarkar was suspended from his duty by the Bidhannagar City Police. A departmental enquiry was initiated.

Police source said that the accused promoter, who often threatened the school administration, took helps from the Sub-Inspector.

The state government has taken stringent action against the offenders as four persons have already been arrested in this case.

The kingpin of the promoter racket, Mijanur Rahman and his two associates were arrested. Police also arrested Buddhadeb Das, the ward committee president of the locality.

The teachers and students were in shock last Saturday morning when they saw that some parts of the building, including the roof were demolished.

Later, Bidhannagar police arrested Mijanur Rahman from Chinar Park area for his alleged involvement in demolishing the school building after the school authorities lodged a complaint against the accused on Saturday. On Sunday, the investigators arrested two other associates of Mijanur.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave assurance of repairing the school building. She has announced a sum of Rs 5 lakh for repairing the building.

State Education minister Partha Chatterjee visited the spot. He assured that the classes will begin soon. The classes will remain suspended for only a few days for the construction work. The teachers, however, were asked to come to the school.

Bidhannagar Mayor Sabyasachi Dutta also visited the spot on Sunday.

Dutta assured the students and teachers of the school of providing protection from promoters. The headmaster of the school urged the Mayor to save the school and the future of his students. The Mayor assured him of doing that.
