School boy killed after being hit by bus

Kolkata: In a tragic incident, a school boy was killed after being hit by a bus on his way to school.

The accident that occurred on Barasat-Barrackpore road on Thursday morning, leading to violence as locals went on rampage ransacking the bus following the accident. The incident also triggered tension among locals and caused traffic jam on the road.

The situation was brought under control after the intervention of the senior police officers of the Barracpore police Commissionerate.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Anu Das, was going to school on his bicycle on Thursday morning.

He was going to appear for a Math examination. When he was crossing Debpukur area under Titagarh police station, the victim was knocked down by a Kamalpur-bound private bus

from Barasat.

When the victim fell on the road after being hit by the bus, he was crushed under the wheels.

Locals rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and rushed the critically injured victim to BN Bose Hospital in Barrackpore where doctors pronounced him brought dead.

The truck driver fled the spot immediately after the accident. An irate mob damaged the bus. Rapid Action Force was deployed in the area to disperse the mob.

Police officers who went to the spot urged people not to indulge in violence but they continued with their protest demonstration.

They alleged that vehicles often over-speed resulting in road accidents.

There was no proper police vigilance in the area, alleged the locals.

A heated altercation broke out between the police and locals. The agitation was lifted after senior police officers assured that their demands would be looked into with utmost importance.

Police have started a detailed probe in this regard. Raids are being conducted to nab the bus driver, who has been absconding since the accident occurred.
