Scattered rainfall brings down discomfort level in city, to go on for another 24 hrs
Kolkata: The city received scattered rainfall in some parts on Thursday afternoon, while some of the Western districts received light to moderate rainfall.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore has predicted that there may be lightning and thundershower in some of the South Bengal districts, in the next 24 hours. The rainfall may intensify in North Bengal districts as well, in the next 48 hours.
The MeT office predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in the coastal districts, after a low pressure trough that remained over the Odisha coast started moving towards Bengal. The MeT office has already issued an alert to the fishermen in the coastal districts, urging them not to venture into the sea in the next 48 hours.
According to the weather office, there is a possibility of thundershower in some South Bengal districts late on Thursday night. Following an alert issued by the weather office, the district administration in East Midnapore intensified surveillance in all the sea beaches to check any untoward incident.
The MeT office predicted that the sea may remain turbulent in the next 48 hours. The East Midnapore district administration has also been conducting a campaign to make the tourists aware.
The weather office also said that the highest temperature in the city and some adjoining districts may remain around 33 degree Celsius, while the lowest temperature will hover around 28 degree Celsius in the next 24 hours.
It may be mentioned here that the humidity level has also dropped following the rainy spell. Traffic movement in various parts of the city became slower on Thursday evening as a result. Senior police officers were out on the streets to manage traffic in the evening.
The North Bengal districts like Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Kalimpong will receive heavy shower in the next 48 hours.
