Sashi Panja urges parents to spend more time with kids

Dr Sashi Panja, Minister of State for Women and Child Development and Social Welfare on Saturday urged parents to help their children to build confidence.

She was addressing a gathering comprising parents of students studying in Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Sister Nivedita Girls' High School.

A mother of two, Dr Panja herself is a medical practitioner and urged parents to spend more time with their children. "You should be proud that your daughters are going to a Bengali medium school run by the nuns of Sarada Mission. Educating a girl child needs special care and attention and parents should spend more time with them," she remarked.

The school authorities on Saturday organised a guardians' meet on the field where the Baghbazar Sarbojanin Durga Puja is held. The nuns of Sarada Mission urged parents to read the life of Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita and the kind of education they had wanted to impart to students.

It was on March 25, 1898 Swami Vivekananda bestowed brahmacharya to Margaret Elizabeth Noble and renamed her as Sister Nivedita.
