The vice-president, HR of the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in Chennai was interrogated by the police at Phool Bagan police station in connection with the Sanjay Roy incident.
Police had asked this senior official of the Chennai branch of the hospital group to appear before them on Wednesday. The investigating officer interrogated the senior official of the hospital group from Chennai in order to ascertain how the Chennai Hospital functions.
The police told the vice-president that there were a series of allegations against the hospital in Kolkata.
Sometimes it is related to the overcharging of patients while sometimes it is about the medical negligence. The police are trying to know after the interrogation if there was any difference in the functioning of the two branches of the hospital.
It may be mentioned that this is for the first time the police have interrogated a senior official from the other hospital to probe into Sanjay Roy incident.
Police have already interrogated top officials of the city hospital including the former CEO of Eastern India, Apollo Gleneagles Hospital and the present CEO Rana Dasgupta, Chief Operating Officer, Joy Basu. Many doctors, nurses and other staff members were also interrogated in this connection so far.
A senior official of the billing department of the hospital was also interrogated as there was an allegation that the hospital authorities forced Roy's family members to deposit a Fixed Deposit certificate to transfer the patient. The hospital authorities initially denied to transfer the patient to the SSKM Hospital due to the non-payment of bills.
The patient eventually died at the SSKM hospital as one of his wounds remained undetected by the private hospital. Sanjay Roy was admitted to the private hospital with various injuries on his body following a road accident.
