Salt Lake Puja committees set to amaze pandal hoppers
Kolkata: Salt Lake is all set to woo pandal hoppers this year with its unique theme-based Pujas at different blocks. In a bid to stand apart from other major pandals in the city, Blocks like BJ, FD, AK and other Puja committees are trying their best to protray the best.
This year, BJ block Puja committee's theme is based on the Indo-China cultural relation. A five-member team from the Puja committee went to China's Yunnan province a few months ago. "Our theme is Amader mrinmoyee ebare (chin) moyee. There will be impression of Wa tribes from China and Indian culture together," said a member of the Puja committee.
He also informed that during the Puja days, Chinese and Indian artists will deliver live performances at the pandal premises. For that a 40-member team from China will be here. There will also be five food stalls run by the Chinese people.
This year, the theme of AK Block Puja committee is based on the Indian epic — Ramayana. The catch-line of the theme is Sitaharan Ebong Ram Raboner Juddho. Through this theme, it would display how misuse of power led to Ravana's defeat.
"Our aim is to celebrate the victory of righteous forces by defeating the evil within us. Several models of characters from the Ramayana could be seen in the Pandal. We have used metals to create a large model of Ravana as metal is a sign of power," said Raja Banik, convener of the AK Block Puja committee.
This year, FD Block Puja committee's theme is based on Steven Spielberg's popular movie Jurrasic Park.
"Our theme is Dinosaur Park. Inside the Pandal premises, light and sound show will be there creating a similar ambience. Models of several kinds of dinosaurs will be there. Volcanos and other impressions will also be seen.
This year, AE Block part I pandal has use of human hands in a artistic manner. "Our theme is Duti Haater Golpo. We can use our hands for both good and bad reasons. Our aim is to represent the use of hands for a good cause," said Chandan Pal, artist behind the theme.
