'Safe Drive Save Life stickers should be on all vehicles'

Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stressed upon the use of "Safe Drive Save Life" stickers on all sorts of vehicles.

Banerjee said: "It is mandatory to use Safe Drive Save Life stickers in front of the driver's seat as well as the rear of all sorts of vehicles. It will help in counselling a person who is driving a vehicle. Drivers will become cautious once they see the sticker and drive vehicles safely."

She also directed the police to engage schoolgoers to distribute stickers among vehicle owners, as it will create a deep impact among drivers as they cannot turn down the request of children and will follow traffic norms while driving.

She directed the state government officials and the police to ensure that Safe Drive Save Life stickers are pasted on all their vehicles.

"There should be Safe Drive Save Life stickers on all vehicles of the state Transport department. I have found that the size of the stickers at present are too small and its contents cannot be read from a distance. The size should be bigger so that it can be read properly," she said, adding that the task of pasting stickers on vehicles needs to be completed within the next seven days.

It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had launched the state-wide Safe Drive Save Life campaign, which has helped in checking road accidents in the state.

Appreciating both the state Transport department and the police in carrying out the Safe Drive Save Life campaign properly, the Chief Minister said: "The police and Transport department officials have carried out several works properly to check road accidents. Now, they need to ensure that the stickers are pasted on all vehicles."

It may be recalled that the state Transport department and police had earlier taken steps to paste stickers and posters containing messages on the quantum of punishment if one is caught speaking over mobile phone while driving. Small stickers were pasted at a corner of the windscreens of mainly commercial vehicles.
