Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation Mayor Sabyasachi Dutta assured the students and teachers of Niladebi Memorial Institute of saving their school building from promoters. Dutta visited the spot at Dashodron area of Baguiati, where the school was allegedly demolished by the promoter and his associates on Friday night.
The teachers and students were shocked on Saturday morning to see that some parts of the building, including the roof were demolished. Later, Bidhannagar police arrested a promoter Mijanur Rahman, from Chinar Park area for his alleged involvement in demolishing the school building after the school authorities lodged a complaint against the accused on Saturday. On Sunday, the investigators arrested two associates of Mijanur. All three accused, including the promoter was sent to 3-day police custody by the Barasat court on Sunday.
"I am really upset with the school authority. I have been the MLA here from 2011. The school authority did not tell me about such incidents of them being threatened over the school property," said Dutta.
The Mayor, however, called up the Police Commissioner of Bidhannagar City Police from there. He asked him to take action against the offenders. The Mayor also told the Inspector-in-Charge of Baguiati police station to take actions against the rowdies and promoters in the area. He said that the local residents would drive those promoters out of the area if police fails to do their duty.
The headmaster of the school urged the Mayor to save the school and save the future of his students. The Mayor assured him about that.
The school administration decided to start school from Monday. Most of the teachers said that they will not stop classes and will resume them from Monday.
The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation will sent engineering staffs to inspect the damaged portions of the school. The repairing work will then proceed.
The teachers said that they spotted some illegal liquor dens near the school and have reported it to Mayor.
It will be recalled that the students of Niladebi Memorial Institute, a private school situated at the Dashodron area of Baguiati found that a portion of the school was damaged. A local promoter Mijanur Rahaman was mounting pressure on the school authorities as he wanted to buy the school property. But the school authorities had categorically told the accused that the school building where many students from the nearby areas study cannot be sold out to a promoter for constructing residential complexes.
