S Dinajpur to have register of persons coming from abroad

BALURGHAT: With the objective of reducing the threat of novel Coronavirus, District Magistrate of South Dinajpur Nikhil Nirmal on Friday issued an order to maintain a separate Register in civic areas for urban region and Gram Panchayat (GP) areas for rural belts, to track the persons coming from affected countries and other states.

All such persons will be monitored closely by the health workers associated with the field level functionaries.

"One employee of the GP nominated by the pradhan will be the custodian of the register and he/she shall update the register regularly on the basis of inputs provided by the health workers. Similarly in civic areas, the employee nominated by the civic chairman will take up the work of maintenance of the register," a source said.

In case any symptom relating to COVID-19 is found in any of these persons, they will immediately be asked to contact their nearest hospital or any state-run facility for medical assistance.

The sub-divisional officers and block development officers will be communicated for the latest update from the district level. The SDOs will work as coordinators. "We have directed the BDOs and SDOs to follow the instructions carefully and conduct meetings with the health workers and police officials along with the authorities of GP and municipality within the next 2 days. The SDOs are being instructed to monitor and coordinate with the BDOs to attend meetings on a regular basis," Nirmal said.

"Social distancing measures are a must for the containment of COVID-19," said Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr Sukumar Dey.
