RSS leader arrested from Delhi after woman alleges rape
Kolkata: Kolkata Police have arrested Amalendu Chatterjee, an RSS leader, from Deshbandhu Nagar under Karol Bagh police station in New Delhi on Monday afternoon on charges of alleged molestation and rape of a women BJP leader from Bengal, after promising marriage.
He was produced before a court in Delhi but had to be admitted to a hospital after he complained of restlessness. The Kolkata Police will pray for transit remand on Tuesday and he will be brought to Kolkata if the remand is granted. A team of the city police personnel left for New Delhi some days ago after receiving a tip-off that he had been staying in a house at Deshbandhu Nagar.
Chatterjee is a leader of the state RSS unit and an all-India pracharak of the party. Along with Chatterjee, allegations of lewd comments and attempt to molest and rape have been made against Dilip Ghosh, state BJP president, Shivprakash, the party's all-India leader and Subrata Chatterjee and Bidyut Mukherjee, secretaries of the BJP state unit.
The woman leader made a complaint with the Behala women police station on August 31.
In the FIR she alleged that taking advantage of her past acquaintance, Chatterjee made advances and she had to terminate her pregnancy thrice.
From 2014, Chatterjee started visiting her flat and they attended many meetings organised by the BJP and RSS in different parts of Bengal and India together. Chatterjee also developed a very good relation with her son.
After the son came to know their relationship, the leader requested Chatterjee to give her a social and legal status. She alleged that he had promised to marry her.
She further alleged that she had given copies of the deed of the flat and will to him.
Chatterjee allegedly wanted to come back to the BJP and they together travelled to New Delhi on August 5.
From August 8, he reportedly refused to receive her telephone calls. On August 31, she lodged an FIR.
She further alleged that Dilip Ghosh had made lewd comments on several occasions after he became the state president in 2015.
In 2016, Shivprakash also allegedly made derogatory comments and tried to molest and rape her in a hotel. He also tried to confine her in a room following alleged instructions from Ghosh.
The issue has created a flutter in the state BJP unit. The senior leaders when contacted refused to comment.
