Road in New Town to be renamed after Durga Das Basu

New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) will rename a stretch of a road in New Town after Durga Das Basu, an erudite scholar and an eminent jurist.

This will be the second road which will be renamed in New Town . The road connecting Sector V with VIP Road has been renamed as Biswa Bangla Sarani by the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

A side-road connecting Karigari Bhavan situated opposite Unitech Housing Complex with the new judicial building that is coming up in Action Area III will be renamed after the great jurist.

A judge of the Calcutta High Court Basu's commentary on the Constitution of India and Casebook on the Indian Constitutional Law are two most popular books on the Indian Constitution. Basu was awarded Padma Bhushan.

This is for the first time, when a road has been renamed after an expert on the Indian Constitution.

Some judges, lawyers and jurists had approached senior officials of NKDA to rename a road after him and the proposal was approved by the NKDA authorities.

It may be mentioned that NKDA has given street numbers and signage in Sector V along with maps to facilitate pedestrians.
