Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that Karnataka Assembly election results would have been "very different", had the Congress allied with the JD (Secular) before the poll.
"Congratulations to the winners of Karnataka polls. Those who lost, fight back," the TMC leader tweeted.
"If Congress had gone into an alliance with JD(S), the results would have been different, very different," she tweeted.
When asked whether the Congress will be able to form the government in Karnataka, she said: "I cannot say whether Congress will be able to form the government in Karnataka or not. But we must congratulate JDS national president, H D Deve Gowdaji and his party because as a regional party they have done better. As I have been saying, regional parties have to be given importance as they are playing a very significant role."
In the same breath, she said that the Congress had not done that better in the election.
She further said: "As I had mentioned earlier today (Tuesday) we have found that Deve Gowdaji's party would be the kingmaker."
She further said: "I came to know through media reports that the Governor has invited BJP party as a single largest party and given them seven days time. But I think that in Goa and Manipur there is precedence when the Congress was the single largest party, but at that time they were not called. So it depends on the Governor. We must respect our democratic setup. But Congress has not done that good."
