Kolkata: A real estate developer in Behala Parnasree area had a close shave on Sunday night when a gang of miscreants allegedly fired at him while he was standing in the balcony of his residence at Kazipara Road.
The bullets, however, missed the target and allegedly hit the grille of the balcony as the developer ran away into his room and slammed the doors.
According to sources, the victim Milan Chatterjee had come to his residence after some work at around 8 pm and was planning to go out at around 8.30 pm with some important files to hand over to one of his friends.
Somebody called him by his name and he went to the balcony to find out who was calling him. As he went near the grille of his first floor balcony to peep below, three miscreants who had come on a motorcycle fired at him.
"I heard sounds of gun shots. However, I was lucky as one of the bullets hit the grille. In fear I rushed into my door and locked it from inside and informed the police," Mukherjee said.
Police sources said that there was an attempt of killing Mukherjee way back in 1998 when bombs were hurled at him.
He was injured and was admitted at a private hospital in Alipore for a long time. Following the attack, the police had posted security for him. However, the guards were withdrawn with the consent of Mukherjee some days back.
"It seems that the miscreants were aware that security of Mukherjee has been withdrawn," a senior police official said.
"The sleuths are scanning the CCTV footage of the location for further leads.
"Experts are trying to draw a sketch on the basis of description of one of the miscreant as Mukherjee had described," the police official added.
