Kolkata: Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) has decided to confer D Litt to legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan at its annual convocation in May.
It may be mentioned that the executive committee, which is the highest decision-making body of the varsity, had unanimously decided to confer the award to Bachchan. "We have sent the proposal to our honourable chancellor for necessary approval," said Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury, the vice-chancellor of RBU.
Raj Bhavan sources said that Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, who happens to be the chancellor of the varsity, has already given his nod in this matter.
RBU will also honour classical singer Pandit Amiya Ranjan Bandyopadhyay, noted poet and novelist Nabanita Dev Sen and singer Jatin Das at the convocation, which is scheduled to be held on May 18 at the Jorasanko campus of RBU.
It may be mentioned that Bachchan has been honoured with Padma Shri in 1984, Padma Bhushan in 2001 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015 for his contributions to Indian cinema.
The Government of France has honoured him with its highest civilian honour, Knight of the Legion of Honour, in 2007 for his exceptional career in the world of cinema and beyond.
