Ration to be distributed to over 1 crore school-goers in state

Kolkata: The School Education Department will distribute the fourth installment of ration to the students from July 6.

A total of 1.09 crore students studying between classes I to VIII in state-run, aided and sponsored schools along with those studying in, madrasa, Sishu Siksha Kendra (SSK) and Madhyamik Siksha Kendra (MSK) will be given the ration. As the department could not give mid-day meal to the students as the schools are closed because of the nationwide lockdown due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee decided to give ration to these students.

The students will be given 2kg rice, 2kg potato, 250 gram pulses ( masur) and 50 ml sanitizer. The distribution will be completed by July 13. This is for the first time when pulses and sanitizers will be given to the students. The first installment consisting 2kg rice and 2 kg potato was given in March while the second installment consisting 3kg rice and 3kg potato was given in April.The third installment consisting 2kg rice and 2 kg potato was distributed in June.

The civic authorities dispatch the rice and potato and the school staffs put them in packets and delivered to the recipients.

The students are not allowed and their parents will come to collect the ration. The school premises will been sanitised and the receivers will have to maintain physical distancing. In areas where there are containment zones, the municipalities and police will be engaged to drop the ration packets at the door step of the students.
