Ramua murder case: Wife, son hatched plot
Kolkata: Six persons were arrested in connection with the dreaded criminal Rammurty Dewar, alias Ramua's murder on Friday night.
According to police, Rammurty Dewar's wife Kajal was involved in an extra-marital affair with one Kartik Yadav of Howrah since the past few years. Yadav, along with Kajal, and their son Samir were the masterminds of the murder. The rest three involved are Samir's friends.
Police sources informed that Kajal and Samir had told police that on the night of January 13 as many as five-six miscreants entered their rented flat at Amarabati in Sodepur and took Samir at gunpoint.
Later, they allegedly shot Ramua dead and fled. During the probe, it was suspected he was murdered by one of his rivals. But while questioning Kajal, the sleuths found several contradictory statements. Smelling a foul play, police kept on questioning Kajal and Samir in different rooms. As there were several discrepancies in their statements, the sleuths grew suspicious.
On Friday, both of them were again interrogated where Kajal admitted to have killed Ramua with her son. Kajal claimed she did the crime because they were subjected to Ramua's regular torture. The sleuths came to know about Yadav, who is an insurance agent by profession and arrested him from Barrackpore. Sources informed that he had met Kajal while issuing an insurance policy around three years ago.
Ramua came to know about his wife's affair when he was in judicial custody and had allegedly threatened Yadav. Meanwhile, Yadav came to know that Ramua wanted his son to be a gangster but Samir refused. As a result, he was regularly beaten up by Ramua. Later, Samir allegedly prepared the plan with Yadav and his mother to kill Ramua.
To kill his own father, Samir contacted his school friends — Vishal Menon and Shyamsundar Rao. Prashant Kumar Singh, who is a third-year student of mechanical engineering, was arranged. They had used Ramua's pistol to kill him in an inebriated state. Though Ramua saw Samir's friends approaching him, he could not save himself as he was unable to stand up. To reduce the sound of firing, the accused had used a pillow.
Prashant was arrested from Durgapur on Friday night. Menon and Rao have been arrested from Jamshedpur and brought to Khardah police station. The sleuths have recovered Ramua's pistol along with five rounds of bullet and Rs 30,000 from them.
