Rajarhat campus of CNCI turned into quarantine centre

Kolkata: The second campus of Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute (CNCI) at Rajarhat has come up as a quarantine facility in the state. This comes as a measure to fight against COVID 19.

The centre comprises 450 beds and patients can be kept under observation for more than 14 days at a stretch at the facility.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had made the announcement on Saturday itself that the newly built building in CNCI's second campus at Rajarhat will be treated as a quarantine centre. Later, the functioning of the cancer hospital would start once the COVID 19 cases get resolved.

She had also said that the state government has indentified another building at Rajarhat itself, where another 400 to 450 beds can be set up.

According to sources in the state government, steps were initially taken to set up a quarantine centre at Barasat District Hospital. Later, the CNCI's new building was selected to set up the quarantine centre as per the advisories of the Centre.

The work to set it up as a quarantine centre has been carried out on war footing. It is situated closer to the airport as well.

Senior officials of the state Health department visited the quarantine centre and supervised the work that was being carried out on Sunday. They have also ensured that all necessary infrastructures remain available, so that the people do not face any inconvenience.

The situation in Bengal is not that grim and the Chief Minister has said that there is no problem yet in the state and there is nothing to panic about. She also stated that all sorts of steps have been taken as precautionary measures, following advisories of the Centre.
