Rainfall likely in pockets of coastal districts: MeT
Kolkata: Some South Bengal districts received scattered rainfall on Thursday, two days after the official announcement of withdrawal of South West Monsoon from the state. The Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore said there may be some more rainfall in some pockets of the coastal districts in the next 24 hours as well. The MeT office is yet to announce when the winter will officially set in.
The MeT office, however, predicted that the humidity-level in the city and some other South Bengal districts will be on the higher side in the next couple of days particularly during the day time. In the night hours the temperature will slightly go down.
According to a senior weather official, the state sometime receives scattered rainfall after the retreat of southwest Monsoon due to a change in the weather system. Various South Bengal districts remained cloudy from the morning.
Due to fluctuating temperature and prevalence of dust particles in the air, the city dwellers particularly the children are being affected with respiratory distress, fever and cough and cold. According to the doctors, it is quite common during season change.
This year, even Rain Gods celebrated the arrival of Goddess Durga. As Kolkata celebrates Pujas with great fervour, showers become a part of the festivities.
Some parts of the city witnessed light showers and the met centre kept people on tenterhooks with its prediction of overcast sky and spells of thundershowers.
