Railways restructuring platform numbers at Sealdah Station
Kolkata: Eastern Railway authorities are restructuring the numbering of platforms in Sealdah station for the convenience of passengers. The station has three sections – North, Main and South. It has 21 platforms, the numbering was upto 14 A.
Earlier, platform number 4 was followed by 4 A, platform number 9 was followed by 9 A, 9 B and 9 D and platform number 10 followed by 10 A. According to sources, the new platform numbers will have no alphabets attached with the numeric.
The new platform numbering arrangement has been sent to the electronic display board at the station premises. The Sealdah North section will have five platforms, Sealdah Main branch will have nine platforms and Sealdah South section will have seven platforms. "Yes, we are restructuring the numbering of platforms at Sealdah Station for the convenience of the passengers," said official.
Sealdah station used to run 101 (long distance and local trains) and cater 1.8 million passengers during pre-lockdown period on a daily basis. In the south section of the Sealdah division, local trains used to run in a number of routes. The prominent ones are Sealdah – Namkhana route, Sealdah – Budge Budge route, Sealdah – Canning route and Sealdah – Diamond Harbour route.
