Rabindranath Ghosh hands over land rights to several enclave-dwellers
Cooch Behar: State North Bengal Development minister Rabindranath Ghosh on Thursday handed over land rights to several enclave dwellers of Cooch Behar.
"The state has always stood by the side of the enclave dwellers. We had brought a Bill in this regard in the state Assembly on November 19. Since then we have been busy in documentation of the Land Rights. Today (Thursday), we are handing it over to the beneficiaries," Ghosh said.
The total number of beneficiaries are more 13,560. The total amount of land is 7110-acre for which the rights
were given.
The areas include blocks under Tufanganj, Dinhata, Mathabhanga, Sitalkuchi and Mekhliganj.
The minister also said if somebody find any problem related to the land they can fill up form 9 and raise their objections with the Land and Land Reforms department at the local level in a period of one month.
It was on July 31 when the enclave dwellers got Indian citizenship. They had already been provided benefits in the form of job card, Aadhar card, Voter's ID etc. The land rights had been their long
standing demand.
District Magistrate Cooch Behar, Kaushik Saha, welcomed the move of the
state government.
