PWD holds meeting over three Digha bridges for expediting work

In a bid to complete the three proposed bridges in Digha and its adjoining areas, top brass of the state Public Works Department (PWD) held a meeting in Nabanna.
The meeting was held on Thursday, a day after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee directed all the concerned departments in the administrative review meeting held on Wednesday in Digha to take necessary steps for timely completion of the bridges.
In a bid to improve the connectivity with Digha and its adjoining places, three bridges will come up in the area. The bridges will be connecting Digha-Shankarpur, Shankarpur-Tajpur and Tajpur-Mandarmoni.
According to sources, Principal Secretary of PWD Indevar Pandey held a meeting with top engineers of his department on Thursday at 12 noon. They discussed all aspects to ensure timely completion of the bridges.
The length of the first two bridges will be around 600 metre including the approach roads. The Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for construction of the two bridges are ready and other necessary works are also going on.
Now, the engineers are taking necessary steps so that the DPR of the third bridge connecting Tajpur-Mandarmoni can also be completed as early as possible and the work on field can be started.
The length of the third bridge excluding the approach road will be around 90 metre and the necessary task to plan the approach road has been taken up.
The PWD officials have contacted the senior officials of the Digha Shankarpur Development Authorities (DSDA) to take up certain measures so that the task can be completed as early as possible.
It may be mentioned that there are various issues like tidal waves and salinity that have to be kept in consideration while constructing the bridges. Considering all the factors, all the concerned departments mainly the PWD, are taking all measures to ensure longevity of the bridges. There shouldn't be any loopholes so that salinity and tidal waves can affect the bridges, said a senior state government official.
While holding the administrative review meeting at Digha on Wednesday, the Chief Minister had enquired that why the work to build the bridges was not progressing properly. She had enquired from top officials of all the concerned departments and also had interacted with Sisir Adhikary, MP from Contai Lok Sabha constituency, in this regard.
