Purbachal stabbing: Car washer held from Duttabad

Kolkata: The sleuths have nabbed a person identified as Neeraj Das from Duttabad on Tuesday night for allegedly stabbing an elderly woman at Purbachal on Saturday. During interrogation, he confessed to have committed the crime.

According to the sources, Das used to wash cars of the residents at Purbachal Housing Complex and used to get paid for it.

A few months ago, he had bought a scooter for which he had pay to monthly EMIs. Recently, he was unable to pay and needed money urgently.

Das came up with the idea of robbing after failing to pay his next EMI. After a thorough search, he found Chakraborty's flat inside cluster III, Purbachal. On Friday morning, he went inside the flat wearing a helmet and attacked Jayashree Chakraborty. When she was down on the floor with multiple stab injuries, Das took around Rs 7000 and fled.

The sleuths have found similarities between the statements of Das and Chakraborty.

On Friday, she said a man at the door, wearing a helmet had asked money from her.

But before she could react, he started stabbing her. When she screamed, he took some cash from her bag and fled.

Das will be produced before Bidhannagar Court on Wednesday with an appeal for his police remand.
