Friday brought huge relief to thousands of SLST (State Level Selection Test) aspirants, as the Calcutta High Court on Friday withdrew the stay order on publishing the list of successful candidates.
After the court of Justice Rajiv Sharma removed this legal hurdle, the state government can now go ahead and publish the list of successful candidates of the 2016 SLST for recruitment of assistant teachers from Class IX to XII.
113 candidates, led by Sunil Das, had filed a case against the state government. They had challenged the state government's decision in which B.Ed degree was made compulsory for SLST candidates.
They challenged the state government in court saying that they had acquired a two-year certificate course from the Rehabilitation Council of India – which was said to be equivalent to B.Ed, and therefore have the chance to appear for SLST. The Calcutta High Court, after judging their demand, had given them the permission to appear in the SLST.
Later, the Calcutta High Court gave stay order to publish the result of SLST after several cases were filed against it. But eyeing on the employment of thousands of candidates, the state government recently appealed to the court to bring solution on this issue. The court of Justice Rajiv Sharma, on Friday, withdrew the stay order on publishing the list of successful candidates for SLST for the recruitment of assistant teachers 2016.
However, an Education department source said that there were some other cases filed against School Service Commission's SLST, which could stop the process of releasing the list of successful candidates once again. It will also be recalled that November 27 and December 4 were the two dates where candidates appeared in this examination. The secondary level SLST was taken on November 27 and Higher Secondary level SLST was taken on December 4, last year.
