Promoter shot at from close range in Sonarpur
Kolkata: A promoter was shot at from close quarters in Sonarpur on Saturday night. Police are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the attack. They suspect monetary gain was the main motive behind the crime.
Police said the victim, Narayan Biswas, a local businessman from Raipur area in Sonarpur was returning home on his motorcycle when three miscreants suddenly started following him on
another motorcycle. When the victim was near Raipur area, the miscreants stopped him and shot him. Biswas suffered bullet injuries on his hands.
After hearing the gun shots, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the victim who had been lying in a pool of blood.
The miscreants had their faces covered when they forced the victim to stop his bike.
The victim was initially taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to NRS Medical College and Hospital in the city as his condition deteriorated. After the preliminary investigation, police suspect the miscreants might have shot him during an attempt to
loot money.
They knew that the businessman might have been carrying a bag containing money.
The investigating officers are also probing if it was a result of any past business rivalry.
They are looking into all possible angles which might have led to the incident. His family members told police he left home in the morning and the incident took place when he was returning home on late Saturday evening. After being informed, policemen from the local police station reached the spot and started a probe.
According to police, the miscreants had been keeping a watch on the victim for the past few days and they were well aware of the route he used to take to reach home. The investigating officer also interrogated some of the locals.
They also spoke to the victim's family members to know if he had received any threat call in the past few days.
